Ash Wednesday

Ash Wednesday marks the beginning of the season of Lent. It is a day of penitence and remembrance of our sins of the past and our ultimate mortality. Ashes from palm branches are used to place the sign of the cross on the forehead. The ash cross is an outward sign of the person's sorrow and repentance for sins. Often other symbolic acts are used (i.e. planting a seed, writing onpaper) so that members of the congregation can physically demonstrate the new beginning in Lent.

Lent

Lent is a time of repentance, fasting and preparation for the coming of Easter. It is a time of self-examination and reflection. In the early church, Lent was a time to prepare new converts for baptism. Today, Christians focus on their relationship with God, often choosing to give up something or volunteering and giving of themselves for others. The forty days represents the time Jesus spent in the wilderness, enduring the temptation of Satan. Sundays in Lent are not counted in the forty days because each Sunday represents a "mini-Easter" celebration of the Jesus' victory over sin and death.

HOLY WEEK

Palm/Passion Sunday

This Sunday morning service is at the North Campus. With palm branches and hosannas, join us to celebrate Jesus’ triumphal entry into Jerusalem. And, listen as the story evolves and we begin the Holy Week journey, following Jesus to Calvary.

Maundy Thursday

This service will be a new experience around the tables at the South Campus. Prepare for Easter with this midweek celebration of the Last Supper, remembering the night the disciples gathered around the table to receive the gift and promise that comes with the sacrifice Jesus willing gives that night.

Good Friday

This will be our traditional service at the North Campus. With the Tenebrae service (service of darkness), we will follow Jesus’ footsteps, from the upper room through the garden and the trial, right to the cross. This very special service will tell the story in word and music
